PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A routine traffic stop early Wednesday morning turned into a foot chase that ended with a Ludington man behind bars.
According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, deputies pulled over the 38-year-old driver just after 2 a.m. in the 100 block of North Nelson Road. When the man refused to follow the deputy’s instructions, he allegedly bolted from the scene on foot. The chase was short-lived — officers caught up to him, and he was booked into the Mason County Jail on suspicion of assaulting, resisting, and obstructing police.
It wasn’t the only call law enforcement responded to in recent days. Mason County deputies and Ludington police were kept busy with a range of incidents:
Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025
- 6:21 a.m. — Vehicle vs. deer collision on Scottville Road, north of Kinney Road in Eden Township. No injuries reported.
- 6:26 a.m. — Another deer strike, this time on Custer Road just south of Chauvez Road in Eden Township. Again, no injuries.
- 7:42 p.m. — A 74-year-old Thompsonville man was ticketed for operating an unregistered vehicle following a traffic stop near Dowland and Madison streets in Ludington.
Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025
- 1:37 p.m. — Deputies are seeking charges against a 33-year-old Fountain woman after she allegedly refused to get out of her vehicle when ordered to do so at US 10 and Meyers Road in Pere Marquette Township.
- 2:59 p.m. — Theft reported from a campsite on Forest Trail near LaSalle Road in Grant Township.
